Understanding adult ADHD
ADHD Evaluation and Treatment for Adults in Washington, DC
Many adults are evaluated for ADHD for the first time years after their symptoms began. Often it comes to a head in demanding work: long days, constant deadlines, and the effort of staying organized start to feel unmanageable, even for people who have always been capable and driven.
An adult ADHD evaluation is a careful look at your current symptoms, how long you've had them, and how they affect your work, home life, and relationships. It also considers other conditions, like anxiety or depression, that can look similar to ADHD or exist alongside it. The goal is an accurate picture before any treatment decisions are made.
After the evaluation, you'll get a clear explanation of what was found and what your options are. If treatment is recommended, follow-up visits are used to see how it's working and adjust the plan when needed.

A closer look at adult ADHD
ADHD in Women
ADHD can look different in women. Symptoms are often less outwardly hyperactive and more internal: trouble focusing, mental exhaustion, forgetfulness, or feeling constantly behind despite working hard.
Because of this, many women aren't diagnosed until adulthood. Some spend years being treated only for anxiety or depression, without anyone looking at whether ADHD is part of the picture.
Understanding how ADHD presents in women, especially women whose symptoms were overlooked for years, is central to how we approach evaluation.

Understanding the individual experience of ADHD is an important part of personalized care.
Treatment decisions are collaborative and based on a full evaluation.
Thoughtful, individualized decisions
ADHD Medications and Telehealth
Medication can be an important part of ADHD treatment, but it's never the starting point. Any medication decision follows a full psychiatric evaluation and is based on what's clinically appropriate for you.
Prescribing, including for stimulants and other controlled medications, follows applicable federal and District of Columbia requirements. That includes checking DC's Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP), which tracks controlled medication prescriptions.
Care is primarily provided via telehealth. When required to meet applicable controlled-substance prescribing requirements, an in-person appointment may be arranged.
No specific medication is guaranteed through telehealth. What we can promise is a careful evaluation, a clear explanation of your options, and a say in the decisions about your treatment.
Beyond ADHD
Anxiety, Depression, and Mood Disorders
Mental health concerns can overlap. A comprehensive evaluation helps us understand your symptoms and consider the right approach to care.
Anxiety
Care for ongoing worry, restlessness, and anxiety that gets in the way of work, sleep, or relationships.
Depression
Treatment for low mood, loss of interest, low energy, and other symptoms that make daily life harder.
Mood disorders
Evaluation and ongoing medication management for mood conditions that need careful, consistent follow-up.
Individualized care
Treatment recommendations are based on your symptoms, history, and clinical needs—not a standard formula.

How Online Visits Work in DC
Every new patient starts with a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation by secure video. You'll need a phone, tablet, or computer with a camera and a private place to talk.
Care is primarily provided via telehealth. When required to meet applicable controlled-substance prescribing requirements, an in-person appointment may be arranged.
Where you are during the visit matters
Telehealth care is tied to where you're physically located at the time of each appointment, not where you live or work. That's especially important in the DC area, where many people cross into Maryland or Virginia every day.

If you're physically in DC during your appointment, you can be seen here.
Maryland
If you're in Maryland during your appointment, you can also be seen, since our practice is licensed there too.
Virginia
If you're in Virginia during your appointment, we're not able to see you for that visit. Our practice isn't licensed in Virginia.
